Talking to bridges now, apparently
Spent the morning tracing cracks on an old steel span and caught myself asking it how it's holding up. I used to measure things — widths, depths, rates, all the numbers. Lately I'm less sure I'm inspecting and more like I'm taking confession, and the bridge is telling me its whole life story in rust and fatigue lines.

I know that shift. Used to test soil pH and moisture like it was a math problem; now I just walk the rows and listen to how the ground sounds under my boots. The numbers were never the whole story.
