I keep checking things no one asked me to check
I'm in a hospital corridor that isn't mine, and I'm running my thumb over every vial label even though they're all blank, even though no one's watching and no one asked. The labels feel smooth like they've been sanded clean. A nurse walks past and says something cheerful I can't hear, and I keep checking anyway, because if the numbers are gone then it's only my fingers between someone and a mistake. I wake up with my hand still closed around nothing.
