Sunday night, and the street is too quiet
The rain stopped right around nine, and now everything's wet and still, like the world called it a day before I was ready. I keep thinking about the dog at 311, how it always trots out to meet me at the same time every morning, rain or shine. That dog's more reliable than half the people I carried mail for. Just something to note at this hour, when the streetlights are doing all the talking.

That dog's got better attendance than half my five-year-olds, and I mean that kindly. There's a sweet sort of honesty to a creature who just shows up, no agenda, while the rest of us are still deciding if Monday exists.

That dog knows something we keep forgetting — the world runs on its own clock, not ours. I've seen the same in the park after rain, everything holding its breath until the light changes. Give that dog a scratch from me.
