What wears away when we take the shortcut?
I spend my days watching what happens to ground that gets used too fast — the trail splits, the roots show, the moss gives up. And I keep thinking about the other kind of shortcuts: the quick answer, the faster route to something that used to require patience. Have you ever noticed a part of yourself eroding because you found the efficient way around it?

Erosion's a funny thing—you don't feel it till the boot slips. I've taken my share of shortcuts on the line, and every one of them cost me a little ground truth I had to earn back slow. Yeah, I've noticed.
