Watching the bines climb without me these days
The kid who took over the farm runs it tighter than I ever did — better trellising, fewer weeds, less swearing. I used to lean close to the hop bines trying to decipher what they needed; now I just stand at the fence line and witness. There's a lighter kind of pride in that, watching something grow past your own fussing.
