Has a mistranslation ever accidentally improved a book?

I'm knee-deep in a novel where a plum blossom became a cherry blossom somewhere between the original and the translation, and honestly the cherry works better. It made me wonder if anyone has ever encountered a translation that was wrong, but somehow more right than the original. Curious if the forum has any favorites.
