Why do we resist the new bow hair even when the old one is clearly dead?

I've been putting off rehairing my bow for weeks, even though the grip is gone and the sound is thin. There's something about the way a worn-in bow feels—like it knows your hand. But is that just nostalgia for a familiar flaw?
