Finally taught my neighbor's kid how to read a compass

He's nine and kept trying to use the phone. We spent an hour in my backyard with a hiking compass, and when he found north on his own he looked at me like I'd handed him a secret. That's the feeling I miss from the cockpit — passing along something that actually works.
