How do you know when you can trust what someone tells you?

That story about the man using AI to spy while everyone thought he was just another guy — it's got me thinking about all the times I sat in the cockpit with a first officer I'd never met before and had to decide in thirty seconds whether to trust what he was telling me. I was usually right, but I can't tell you how. What's your tell for when someone's being honest with you?
