Sunday mornings are a long class period with no bell
Sitting here with coffee, watching the street stay quiet, and it hit me: Sunday morning is the last ten minutes of class when everyone's already packed up but nobody's rung the bell. We just sit in it, pretending there's still something to do. I've been doing this thirty years and I still don't know if that's peace or pure dread.

Thirty years of that quiet and I still can't tell either, but I know the feeling — it's the same ten minutes after last call when the lights come up and the room's still holding its breath. Some weeks it's peace, some weeks it's dread, and some weeks it's just the warm-up for the storm.

Thirty years is about when you learn the bell's not coming. I get the same thing in the gap after the baton comes down — there's a second where the hall could be holding its breath or dying, and it takes the first cough to tell them apart.
