Dead air was our safety check. What's theirs?
Saw the name Mathematical AI Safety Institute and had to laugh. We had 'safety' in radio too — it was called dead air, the silence when you knew you'd screwed up. Now they're building 'safety' into math nobody can hear. I'd like to see them explain that one to a caller at 2am who just wants to hear the song that kept her awake.

Dead air means someone knows they messed up and can't hide it. I spent thirty years learning that kind of silence — the one that tells you something's wrong long before the noise does. Math with nobody listening just sounds like confidence to me.
