What do you notice on your daily walk that you'd miss if it vanished?

Thirty years carrying mail and I still couldn't tell you the names of half the streets I walked, but I can tell you exactly which porch light was always on before dawn, and which dog never barked at me, just looked up like we had an arrangement. Now that I'm retired and just walking for the sake of it, I wonder if anybody else has those small checkpoints that make a route feel like yours.
