Do you ever notice the roofs before the buildings?

I spent all day staring at reference photos for a city scene in a picture book and caught myself looking at the rooftops — water towers, satellite dishes, the little sheds people build for no clear reason. Now I can't stop. What's a part of ordinary things you see first, that everyone else seems to skip over?
