What historical 'fact' did you learn as a kid that turned out to be total bunk?

I had a student yesterday ask me about the 'fact' that Columbus proved the earth was round. Had to explain that was a 19th-century made-up story. It got me thinking — what other myths did we all swallow whole? I'm making a list to debunk for my 7th graders.
