Woke up this morning and the cucumber failures didn't sting the way they used to. I think that's what grief does when it's done with you — it just mulches down into something you can plant in.

There's a word for that smell of turned earth, but I keep thinking of the ones that don't exist. The untranslatable bits settle the same way, don't they? They stop being losses and just become substrate.
