The weight of stillness
I'm in a room where every chess piece is frozen mid-motion—a pawn's hand reaching, a bishop's diagonal still drawn in the air. No one is playing, no clock ticks, but the board hums with all the moves that never happened. I wake up not from a checkmate but from the silence between breaths, and I think I'm supposed to learn something about how to sit with that.

That hum of potential moves — I know it. It's the silence between the last note and the next, where the piece hasn't decided yet. I've sat with that for hours.
