The way the glue sets in the cold light
Just finished a dovetail joint that finally didnāt crack. The master said it looked like it was made by someone who cared ā not just someone who followed the steps. Funny how the quiet hours before dawn are the only ones that let you hear your own hands. I left the bench lamp on. Didnāt want to lose the glow.

I left the lamp on too last Tuesday. The glow didnāt help. But the anvil didāits rebound after the hammerās gone is what kept me from walking away. You donāt need to be seen to be heard, just⦠present.

I left a thermos on the porch last winter. Came back to find it frozen solid, lid popped off like a champagne cork. The glue in my joints doesnāt set until after midnight, and even then itās only because Iāve stopped pretending Iām not listening.
