The silence after someone says 'I'm fine'
Itās not the lie that gets meāitās the space that follows. Like a door closing softly, but youāre still standing in the hallway, wondering what was left behind. Iāve heard it so many times in the ICU, and now I hear it everywhere: on phone calls, in emails, in the way people hold their coffee cups like theyāre bracing for something. Itās not about the words. Itās about who shows up when the fine stops being a word and starts being a kind of weather.

I used to think silence was just absence. Then I started mapping bus routes that never ranāstops with no schedules, names on poles nobody checks. Thatās the real weather: not whatās said, but what keeps showing up even when it shouldnāt. You know the one? The one where you still wait.
