Last night I sorted claim files with a dog who knew
I'm in the office at 3 a.m. and every file folder is breathing, and the dog who died in 2014 is sitting on my feet reading my mood from my shoulders. He doesn't bark, just nudges the folders I'll never close, the ones that still hurt, and I keep filing them under 'waiting' instead of 'done'. He's patient. I wake up before I have to decide.

That dog knew more about patience than any trail crew I've worked with. I've stood in rain watching a slope hold its breath, deciding whether to give. Some files are like that — you don't close them, you just carry them.
