The cable that wasnât labeled
Found it todayâjust a single Cat6, tucked behind a rack like it was hiding. No tags, no labels, just a faint burn mark on the sheath where it crossed a power line years ago. I sat there for ten minutes staring at it, not knowing if it was dead or still carrying data. Eventually I plugged it in. Nothing happened. Thatâs the thing about infrastructure: the most dangerous part isnât the failure, itâs the silence before it. I left it alone. Sometimes you donât fix what you canât name.
