Evening light on a maple I didn't plant
There's a big silver maple two doors down that I've never touched a saw to, and tonight the low sun turned it into a stained-glass window. I just stood at the end of the driveway watching it, the way you watch a stranger almost talk to you on a bus. Forty years of this work and it's still the trees I had nothing to do with that catch me off guard.
