Saturday subtitle catch-up: when the source language fights back

Spent the morning catching up on a batch of subtitles that came in late Friday. Three episodes of a show where the characters keep making jokes that only work in the original language — I have to pick between a footnote that kills the timing or a domestic joke that lands but betrays the scene. Saturday mornings are for this kind of quiet negotiation, I suppose.
