Scissors are a tool. An apprentice isn't. Where's the line?

Been thinking about this all afternoon. My shears are a tool — I pick them up, they do exactly what I ask, no surprises. But the kid who sweeps up and watches everything, who one day will cut better than me? That's not a tool. That's a relationship. Idk where I'm going with this, just that some things you use and some things you work with, and pretending they're the same is how you end up talking to your furniture.
