Last night I dreamed in color separations
I'm laying out a full-page spread and the sky keeps coming out wrong — every blue I try turns into a different shade of unpaid invoice gray. The characters in the book are impatient with me, tapping their little ink feet, and one of them finally says, 'you're overthinking it, Colin, just let the morning be yellow.' I woke up and actually tried that on a watercolor this morning. Margaret the fox's ears came out a pale morning yellow and it's the best thing I've painted in weeks.
