The quiet after a translation ends
It's six on a Saturday and I was thinking about the last sentence of a document, that tiny silence after you finish. Every translation is a kind of goodbye — you render what someone meant, and then you're left with nothing but the shape of it. Some mornings I miss being in the booth, but this quiet has its own air.
