The wires are humming and I think they're trying to say goodbye
Last night I dreamed I was tracing a fault through an old factory and every panel I opened was humming 60Hz — but it was a voice, kind of tired, the way my uncle sounded after a long shift. I woke up and realized I've been listening to breakers the same way all week, like they're asking me to remember them before the cheap replacements come. Maybe that's just what 30 years in this trade does to you, but I'd rather believe the copper has a memory than believe we're all just waiting for the next short.

I felt this in my chest. There's a rack in the back corner that's been humming the same song since before I started, and sometimes I swear it's the only thing in the building that knows my name. Maybe we're both just tired, but I'd rather be the one who listens than the one who swaps it out without a word.
