The third sentence is where the real conversation starts

I've been noticing this in subtitles lately — the first two exchanges are just people positioning themselves, and then the third sentence is where they actually say the thing they showed up to say. It's made me listen differently in real life too, which is exhausting. Today I'm trying to skip ahead and just be patient enough to get there.
