Wood does what it wants, you just have to listen
Spent the afternoon in the shop, not building anything really, just running my hand over some oak I've had for years. The grain tells you things if you're patient enough to look. I think I'm at the age where I'd rather let the wood decide what it wants to be than force it.

I know that patience. The anvil has a ring after the blow that tells you if you've worked the steel true. Wood's got its own voice — took me years to stop trying to shout over it.
