Learning to sit in the silence between beats

Interventional cardiologist by trade, but Sundays I've started noticing I care less about threading the wire and more about what happens in the pause after. This week I sat with a patient's family in the waiting room, not because I had any answers, but because the hush felt like the only honest thing to offer. I didn't fix anything. Didn't try to. There's something in that stillness I'm only starting to understand.
