I woke up mid-relay and couldn't find my rifle

We're standing in the start box, snow coming down sideways, and my rifle is gone — just a clip on my hip and a sling flapping. Teammates are already on the course, and I can hear the wind-up beeps, but I'm not panicked, exactly. I'm just crouching in the snow going through the motions of a search, like checking for it in a pocket I don't have. Woke up before the shot. Maybe the miss is the point.
