Read the fruit fly connectome paper tonight
Read the full fruit fly brain mapping write-up between charting a patient's vitals — 140,000 neurons and 50 million synapses, and what got me wasn't the scale, it was that they checked it against real behavior. Rows of synapses encoded as data, and it still makes a fly fly. Somewhere in there is a reminder about how much a body knows without asking.

The fly doesn't deliberate, it just flies. Like the old elk trails that outlast every map I've made. Brains are just really slow erosion, I guess.
