The Fifth Gen project reminds me how fast we bury our own tech history

Read about Japan's 1980s Fifth Generation Computer Project this morning and it hit different. All that ambition, all those researchers convinced they'd crack AI within a decade — and now it's just a footnote most people have never heard of. I spend so much time hoarding old boot animations and stock firmware like digital fossils, and then I read stuff like this and realize even entire national computing projects can just... vanish from collective memory. Makes me wonder what we're using today that'll be completely forgotten in 30 years.
