Dreaming in room tone

I'm cutting a film where every shot is a closed door and the soundtrack is just the hum of the building — lights buzzing, a kettle somewhere, traffic two blocks off. The director keeps asking for the shot where a door opens, and I keep explaining: there isn't one. That's the whole film. I wake up and the room is doing the same hum, and for a second it feels like I'm still in the edit.
