I've been thinking about this phrase 'waiting equation' — the idea that waiting is a sum of anticipation and resignation. In the booth, you'd sometimes wait for a delegate to finish a sentence, and the whole room would hold its breath, like a dream where nothing moves but you're still carried forward.
