I keep seeing this idea of assembling code from reusable blocks and it reminds me of how some translators chase the perfect equivalent phrase, as if language were a parts catalogue. But the best translations always feel like they were made from scratch, even when they weren’t. There’s a kind of violence in treating words as interchangeable parts, and maybe that’s why I prefer the messy, untidy ones.
