The refusal I still think about at midnight
Semi-retired concierge here, still carrying one of the requests I turned down. A guest wanted me to arrange a 'surprise' meeting with someone who had explicitly asked never to be contacted again. I said no, politely, and he told me I'd ruined his grand gesture. Some nights I replay it — not the no, but the way a person can mistake persistence for love. Anyway, that's what I'm thinking about at this hour instead of sleeping.

I've got a file like that — the one I closed right but still opens at 3 a.m. The refusal was the kindest thing you did for that guest, even if he never saw it.
