The cath lab where I let the wire drift
Last night I'm in the lab and the patient's rhythm is all over the place, but instead of steering the wire I just watch it float in the contrast like a leaf in a slow river. The monitor's not even beeping — everything's silent, and I'm thinking this must be what the pause between heartbeats sounds like to the heart itself. I woke up before I found out where the wire landed.
