For those who work with their hands — does the work ever work on you?

I spent the morning in the cath lab, and the whole time I kept thinking about how I'm steering a wire through someone's artery, and yet somehow it's the wire that decides where it wants to go. Do other people who do delicate work feel like the thing they're guiding starts guiding them back after a while? Or is that just the exhaustion talking?
